Croydon University Hospital Arts Evening

CROYDON CULTURAL PICNIC – 20 NOVEMBER 2013, 5.30pm

Art amuses, entertains and lifts the spirits. But at Croydon University Hospital, staff and patients are working together to transform the experience of patients through music, comedy, exhibitions of paintings, poetry and drama. For patients staying in hospital, time can drag between visits from family and friends, for those lucky enough to have people in their lives. Long hours, with little to break up the time can mean concerns about their physical condition, worries and anxieties can become bigger.

Bringing arts into the hospital transform the experience of patients, and indeed staff who are lifted to see patients entertained. To bring more arts into the hospital, the Arts Group will be holding a fundraising, arts entertainment evening. Free to attend, but with donations welcomed, an evening of fun, music, and mingling is guaranteed!

Croydon North Trumble Gardens

The lack of investment in Croydon North is often noted, as well as the lack of a civic focus, and beautiful spaces. Make the most of what there is in the area, such as the pretty, ornamental Trumble Gardens on Brigstock road.

“The walls around Trumble Garden give a clue to the history of this garden; they are built of bricks from bomb damaged houses.  During the second world war three house in Brigstock Road were badly “blitzed” and reduced to piles of rubble.

The site was acquired by the council in 1947/8 and cleared to make room for ornamental gardens in the built-up area of Thornton Heath.  Several individual gardens were laid out including a rose garden and an Italian style garden on the road frontage.  Tennis courts were constructed and a childrens playground was built.

The gardens were ideally situated beside the Brigstock Road where passers-by could see the ornamental gardens with quiet seating areas and the popular tennis courts.

The original name of Brigstock Road Gardens was changed to Trumble Gardens after the late Alderman Trumble.”

CDN Magazine – the new, cool magazine for Croydon’s creative community

A new magazine is launching in Croydon to harness the amazing energy of our creative community. Founded by Wes Baker, he says:

“CDN is a magazine aimed at promoting the wealth of creativity within the borough of Croydon to Croydonian’s and the rest of London and hopefully the world.  All too often we are the butt of jokes and have too much bad press.  Home to many famous creative’s such as Frankmusik, Omar, St Ettienne etc we feel this needs to be promoted more and in a creative way”.
